Statesboro Georgia Weather

A large and intense low pressure system has eastward lifted, drawing a strong cold front over South Carolina and southeast Georgia. A weak, short wave tracks east of the forecast range, provides an ascent and allows a band of convection to move east over the forecast area. This activity will spread westward over South Georgia and South-Central North Carolina over the next few days.

Strong winds combined with wet ground caused dozens of trees to burn in northern Georgia counties. Two tornadoes that occurred in Allendale County were linked to the remains of T.S. Helene as they moved through Georgia and South Carolina. Tornado dissipated, but strong winds and fallen trees, as well as heavy rain, were consistent with winds associated with a non-thunderstorm. A tornado with wind gusts of 60 to 70 mph was observed at the intersection of Interstate 85 and I-85 in Athens County, Georgia.

The wind speed was estimated at about 100 km / h, with precipitation likely associated with the downdraft of the rear flank of a supercell thunderstorm. The tornado was a quarter-mile wide when it crossed Ebenezer Road and had maximum sustained winds estimated at 110 to 120 miles per hour. When the tornado first hit Emanuel County, maximum winds for the tornadoes were estimated at 130 mph, according to the National Weather Service.

The tornadoes first hit Emanuel County about 4: 30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 3, 2016, according to the National Weather Service.
